My name is Chiv Hong. I was born on September 5, 1946 in a small town of Kampot province in Cambodia.
When I was 22 years old, I joined the Navy’s Secret Service. After two years, I was blessed with employment with the United States Embassy in Phnom Penh. I was a personal assistant to the United States Deputy Chief of Mission to Cambodia, the Honorable Robert Vossier Keeley. In 1975, days before the fall of Phnom Penh, the American government evacuated all Embassy employees. My wife, daughter, and I were among the last evacuees escorted out along with the United States Ambassador, the Honorable John Guther Dean. We then came to settle in the Washington D.C. area, and I worked for the United States Ambassador to the European Communities, the Honorable Thomas O. Enders. Several years later, I worked for the Algerian Embassy. After that, I transitioned on to hold several other positions. I worked as a taxi driver, a cleaning contractor for Fairfax County Government, as well as owned my own cleaning business. Since 2012, I have retired from full-time employment and am currently working part time as Supervising Manager for a cleaning contractor at the Navy Federal Credit Union in Tysons Corner, Virginia. While I have been fortunate to have had great employment experiences and credentials, what I am most grateful for is having my family with me and being able to serve them, as head of my family. My family is my inspiration. They never cease to give me encouraging directives to face anything, and they give me the spirit, the drive, and the passion to look ahead with great optimism. My wife has been my best partner throughout our times together, and the best moments of my life have been with my children and grandchildren. |
